Troy University Awarded Connecting to Collections Bookshelf

May 16, 2008

Dr. Marty Olliff and Chris Shaffer
Troy University Archivist Dr. Marty Olliff (left) and Library Director Chris Shaffer display books, charts and DVDs the University recently received through a Connecting to Collections Bookshelf grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Troy University is one of 13 entities in Alabama to receive the collection, which is designed to help universities, museums and other facilities preserve important pieces of Americana. Shaffer successfully wrote the grant for the resources, which provide detailed information relating to the preservation of photographs, art and antiques. The Archives of Wiregrass History and Culture, which is located on the Dothan Campus, houses items ranging from the papers of U.S. Congressman Terry Everett to the letters of Civil War Soldier Hardy Scarborough and early Peanut Festival records. Materials from the Connecting to Collections Bookshelf are available for use on a reference basis by anyone interested in learning more about how to preserve their own heirlooms. For more information, contact Dr. Olliff at (334) 983-6556, ext. 1-327.
