MONTGOMERY—Troy University will celebrate the first year of its new dance undergraduate program with a showcase performance at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 25, at the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts.

“TROY Dances at the Davis” will feature students enrolled in the new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance program along with members of the TROY Dance Repertory Ensemble, dance minors, theatre majors and others, in a contemporary dance concert exploring the themes of youth in various times, places and stages of their lives.

Under the direction of dance faculty member Elie Lazar, the event will feature two dance works, “Apartment” and “Hearts Beating,” an original dance work created by Lazar for TROY’s theatre and dance students. “Hearts Beating” features exciting and passionate nuevo flamencos music and live renditions of such familiar songs as, “You Don’t Know Me,” “Save the Last Dance,” and “You and I.”

Launched in fall 2012, the new Dance BFA program is designed as a comprehensive program for students who either want to pursue a career in dance performance, teach dance or work in the fine arts field in areas involving dance.

Single tickets for the performance are $10 and are on sale now. To purchase, contact the theatre office at (334) 241-9567.

The Davis Theatre is located in downtown Montgomery at 251 Montgomery Street. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to noon.

The 2012-2013 season at the Davis Theatre will continue on Tuesday, Feb. 19, with a performance by The New Shanghai Circus.
