Below are the most commonly explained details about the Grounds Department.


Grounds Crews

The Grounds Department is divided into the following areas: Grounds Maintenance, Sports Turf, Golf Course, Landscape, Irrigation, Mechanic Shop, and Recycling.

  • Grounds Maintenance
    • Regular campus grounds: mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, pressure washing, and most special projects (see below).
  • Sports Turf
    • Athletic fields: football stadium, football practice fields, band practice and intramural fields, baseball and softball fields, and the soccer and track facility.
  • Golf Course
    • Routine care and maintenance.
  • Landscape
    • Care and maintenance: shrubbery, trees, annual plantings, fountains, container plants, hanging baskets on University Ave., greenhouse at the arboretum, and the Chancellor's home.
  • Irrigation
    • Care and maintenance of campus irrigation systems.
  • Mechanic Shop
    • Care and maintenance of grounds equipment.
  • Recycling
    • Maintain campus recycling program.

Everyone is responsible for trash policing across campus.


Troy Campus Grounds Zones

Campus grounds are maintained in zones. Each work-day of the week is dedicated to one of the five (5) specific zones. Below is a n image of the zones over the campus map.


Grounds Special Projects and Responsibilities

The Grounds Department is also responsible for several special events or projects around campus.

  • Clean-up for ball games and special events
  • Pressure washing stadiums, buildings, and campus walkways as needed.
  • Water drainage issues across campus, storm drains, etc.
  • Litter removal from parking lots.
  • Locking all gates to facilities after major events.

 


Other Facts and Questions

Irrigation systems are checked and tested once a month and programmed periodically to ensure proper function. A lightning-caused electrical surge can affect the programming of the system.
