Message from the Director

   The Accounting Program offered through the School of Accountancy within the Sorrell College of Business is designed to afford students the opportunities to obtain a high level of proficiency in accounting and to qualify for the uniform CPA Examination. Routinely ranked among the highest in terms of CPA exam pass rates, our graduates are heavily recruited by national, regional and local CPA firms. The success of our graduates has enabled the Sorrell College of Business to foster relationships with CPA firms throughout the United States. These relationships have resulted in extremely high placement rates for our graduates year after year. The alliances with the CPA firms continue to grow through the establishment of the Accounting Advisory Council that is comprised of partners from national, regional and local CPA firms. Periodic meetings of the Council and faculty representatives maintain the line of communication between the academic and public accounting worlds to ensure that our students receive a state-of-the-art accounting education and that they are rewarded with top job opportunities.

The BSBA in Global Business - Finance provides a foundation to understand a broad range of financial management skills that are essential for students to become ethical professionals to compete in the global business environment. As prerequisites, students in this program should be familiar with principles of accounting, principles of economics, business calculus, and business statistics.

Students will be required to complete credits from the areas of financial management, investments and financial institutions. This program will prepare students to understand how corporate managers make financial decisions and respond efficiently to the challenges within the corporate world. Students will have opportunities to find a variety of jobs in in the finance area such as corporate finance manager, business system analyst, management
consultant, budget analyst, financial examiner, financial analyst and financial advisor.

There are many additional opportunities for students who are interested in financial certification. These certifications include a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), a CFP (Certified Financial Planner), a ChFP (Chartered
Financial Planner), a CFMP (Certified Financial Marketing Professional), and a CTFA (Certified Trust Financial Analyst).
