Welcome

"As representatives of Troy University, we commit to excellence in leadership through service, enthusiasm, and Trojan Pride!"

The Troy University Student Government Association works hard to actively represent the needs and concerns of the student body of our great university by committing ourselves to excellence in leadership, enthusiasm, and Trojan Pride. It is and has been our honor to serve the entire Troy University student body in an effort to maintain great relations with the university administration, faculty, and staff.

Since its establishment, the Student Government Association has effectively been the hands, eyes and voice of the student body. Best said by Trustee Lamar P. Higgins, "Leadership is when others allow you to be the custodian and administrator of their hopes, dreams and visions". We, the Student Government Association, do not take lightly the role and responsibility that the Troy University student body has entrusted to us. Therefore; we charge to be accountable, transparent, and effective in every way, in service to Troy University students.

Departmental and Professional Organizations

One of the best ways to enhance your academic development at Troy University is to join a departmental/professional organization. Most students join these organizations their junior and senior year, but certainly you can do so earlier. The benefits to you are enormous. First, you develop close friendships and ties to those who are in your academic area. You will take most of your classes with your fellow organization members and this will be a chance to have fellowship with those in your major. Many students will form study groups and socialize with their fellow members. Another benefit is that every organization has a faculty advisor. This is your opportunity to get to know a faculty member outside of the classroom. Many faculty members are contacted by businesses about job openings; therefore you want them to think of you first. Also, many of the departmental/professional organizations bring in current professionals to speak to their groups about their businesses and their job experiences. Many of their members enjoy field trips to businesses. As you plan out your academic career be sure to join an organization tied to your major.

Motto: As Representatives of Troy University's Freshman Class, We Commit to Excellence in Leadership through Service, Enthusiasm, and Trojan Pride!

What is Freshman Forum?

Freshman Forum is the freshman branch of the Student Government Association. We are here to help freshmen leaders get connected on the TROY campus and in the community, and begin making lifelong friendships. It is made up of about 40 freshmen and 2 directors.  The members of Freshman Forum are chosen through an application and interview process. After being, selected the new members will go on a retreat to learn parliamentary procedure, leadership skills, and team work. It also provides the chance for you to get to know your colleagues.

Just like any other organization, the Freshman Forum is up of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasure, and other executive officers.  The directors are there to help the executive officers and, members get everything done on your agenda and to be mentors to you.

During the fall and spring semesters the new members will be placed into different committees:

  • Leadership Conference CommitteePlans the High School Leadership Conference

Finance Committee:

  • Handles all money issues: Fundraising and Donations

Publicity Committee:

  • In charge of all advertising; flyers, banners, sidewalk chalk.
Also creates an annual scrapbook for Freshman Forum

Campus Involvement Committee:

  • Connects Freshman Forum to the campus

Community Service Committee:

  • Plans all service projects

Each committee has its' own responsibilities, but they come together to achieve the overall goals that Freshman Forum sets. Some of the annual events sponsored by Freshman Forum are: Fall and Spring Sports Appreciation Day, "Excellence in Leadership" Conference, Higher Education Day, International Thanksgiving Dinner, Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial Ceremony, and more. We encourage that the new members bring ideas that would promote Trojan pride!
