SFC David Gurba

Sergeant First Class David E. Gurba entered the Army in February 2000 and completed OSUT training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky (A TRP, 5-15 CAV) as a 19D Cavalry Scout. His military education includes the United States Army Pathfinder School; Airborne School; Jumpmaster School; the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leader Course; Combat Life Saver Course; Combatives Level I; Primary Leadership Development Course; Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course; and the Maneuver Senior Leader Course.

SFC Gurba’s duty assignments and position include Ft. Hood, TX (HHC 2-5 CAV) and Ft. Bragg, NC (B TRP, 1-73 CAV). He has held every position from Rifleman to Platoon Sergeant. His deployments and combat experience include Operation Desert Spring in Kuwait; Operation Unified Response in Haiti; and combat operations in Iraq during OIF II, OIF V, OIF VI, and Operation New Dawn. SFC Gurba is currently a Military Science Instructor at Troy University in Troy, Alabama.

SFC Gurba’s awards, decorations, and badges include the Bronze Star Medal for Valor; the Bronze Star Medal; the Purple Heart Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal; the Army Commendation Medal With (2) Oak Leaf Cluster; the Army Achievement Medal With (4) Oak Leaf Cluster; the Army Good Conduct Medal (3) Knots; the National Defense Service Medal; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; the Iraqi Campaign Medal (1) Silver Campaign Star; the Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal; the Humanitarian Service Medal; the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3); The Army Service Ribbon; the Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2); the Meritorious Unit Award; the Valorous Unit Award; the Army Superior Unit Award; the Combat Action Badge; the Senior Parachutist Badge; the Pathfinder Badge; and the Driver’s Badge. SFC Gurba has also been awarded The Order of St. George.

MAJ Thomas W. Schrader

Major Thomas W. Schrader entered military service in 1986, enlisting in the Warrant Officer Flight Training Program. In 1995 he earned a commission as a Second Lieutenant from the Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, GA. He has an Associate in Science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Professional Aeronautics, a Bachelor of Science degree from Austin Peay State University in Public Management, and is a graduate of the Combined General Staff Officer's Course, Armor Captain's Career Course, Combined Arms Service and Staff School, the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the AH-64A and D Qualification Courses, and the AH-64 Instructor Pilot Course.

His previous assignments include: Deputy Team Chief and Iraqi Security Forces Coordinator for 1st Bde, 1st Cavalry Division, Iraq; G33/35 Strategic Planner for the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence; Operations Officer of the 110th Aviation Bde; Executive Officer 1-223d Aviation Regiment; G3 Aviation Operations Officer for ARCENT; Intelligence Officer, 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, Iraq; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment; and Gunnery Instructor Pilot, 1st Battalion, 14th Aviation Regiment.

His awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with star device, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with 3 star devices, the Army Superior Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Master Aviator’s Wings, Air Assault Badge, and the award of the Order of Saint Michael.

In January of 2012, Major Schrader was appointed Assistant Professor of Military Science at Troy University Army ROTC department.

Major Schrader is married to the former Maureen Maguire, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have two children, Shaun Collins, 27, an Apache aviator on active duty, and Caitlin, 18, graduating high school this spring.

The Army ROTC curriculum includes:

  

  1. A. Basic Course (Basic Leadership) consists of Freshman and Sophomore level courses that are offered to all students as Troy University ‘General Studies’ free elective credit with no military obligation.  The basic course or equivalent is required to continue into the Advanced Course.  Soldiers who’ve successfully completed U.S. Army Basic Training may receive placement credit for their military experience.  Junior and Senior students may receive Basic Course credit by attending the five-week Leader’s Training Course (LTC), which is held each summer at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The Basic Leadership Course Curriculum includes:
      
  2. B. Advanced Course (Officer Development Course) consists of Junior and Senior level courses that are only available to juniors, seniors and Graduate Students that have met the qualifications of the Basic Course.   The Advanced Course (also the Military Science Minor) Curriculum includes:
  • Select a Military History Course which must be approved by the Professor of Military Science.
  • Cadets must receive their Bachelor’s degree and successfully complete the Army ROTC curriculum in order to receive a commission as a Second Lieutenant (2LT).

Sergeant First Class (P) Curtis A. Reid, a native of Fitzpatrick, Georgia, entered the Army in August 1994 and completed his MOS training at Ft. Benning, GA (A CO, 2-58IN). As an 11M Mechanized Infantryman.SFC Reid graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1991. His Military education includes Combat Life Saver Course; Equal Opportunity Management Course; Total Army Instructor Training Course; Small Group Instructor Course; Tactics Certification Course; Bradley Fighting Vehicle Transition Course; Airborne School; Primary Leadership Development Course; Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course; Maneuver Senior Leader Course and the School of Cadet Command, Instructor Training Course.

SFC (P) Reid’s duty assignments and position include Kirchgoens, Germany; (B CO,
3-5 CAV); Freiburg, Germany (B CO, 1-36IN); Ft. Benning, GA (A CO, 1-30TH IN); Baumholder, Germany (A CO, 1-6IN); Ft. Benning, GA (HHD NCOA, BNCOC); Ft. Benning, GA (B CO, 1-15th IN). He has held every position from Rifleman to Platoon Sergeant not to exclude Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course Instructor. His deployments and Combat experience include Bosnia; Kosovo; Czech Republic; Kuwait; Egypt; Iraq during OIF-I, OIF V; and OIF VII.
