TROY’s Department of Athletic Training offers students opportunities to learn from some of the most recognized professionals in the field as well as receive hands-on clinical experiences with the physically active population. If your heart’s desire is to become a healthcare professional who specializes in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity, then TROY’s athletic training program is for you!
Students who attend Troy University can receive a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training (AT) in four years. The program is housed in the College of Health and Human Services and consists of an intense curriculum that prepares graduates to sit for the Board of Certification national examination for athletic trainers, state licensure and for entry-level positions in a wide variety of settings within the profession. The AT program at Troy University has maintained national accreditation since 1997 and is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Students interested in majoring in AT must formally apply to the program once they complete the prerequisite courses. Acceptance into the AT program is highly competitive and satisfaction of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. On average the AT program admits 15 students each academic year. Information regarding AT admission criteria, prerequisite courses, course sequencing and the AT program application are available at www.troy.edu.
Students enrolled in the AT curriculum will receive opportunities to have clinical experiences with Troy University’s athletic teams, area high schools, orthopedic doctors, rehabilitation facilities, general medical doctors and other allied health professionals. Students’ clinical experiences culminate with a full-semester internship where they have an opportunity to implement their skills in a setting of their choice.
