Troy University Homecoming celebration set for Oct. 24

Posted: Monday, 21 September 2009

TROY—Troy University will celebrate its Homecoming on Oct. 24 under the theme “Dreams of the Past, Visions of the Future…A Legacy of Champions.”

This year’s Homecoming celebration comes as the University marks 100 years of football, which adds even more excitement to the event, said Faith Ward, director of alumni affairs.

“Homecoming is always a special time for Troy University, but this year’s activities take on even greater meaning as we celebrate 100 years of football,” Ward said. “We hope that our alumni and friends will take this opportunity to return to campus, enjoy the Homecoming activities and reflect on the storied tradition of Trojan football.”

Activities will get under way on Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. with the annual Homecoming parade in downtown Troy. The annual parade, hosted by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, is currently seeking entries.

“We expect a great turnout this year with a variety of entries,” said Jenniffer Barner, Chamber president. “Businesses, school and civic organizations are encouraged to participate in this year’s parade.”

Groups interested in participating in the parade must fill out an application, Barner said. Applications can be picked up at the Pike County Chamber of Commerce (located one-quarter mile south of the Lowe’s on U.S. Highway 231 South). The deadline for entries is October 2, 2009. For more information, contact the Chamber at 566-2294.

Following the parade, various tailgating activities will begin at 11 a.m. The Clipson Reunion and alumni chapters will hold tailgating activities on the grounds of the Alumni House, located at the corner of George Wallace Drive and Highland Avenue.

“Trojan Walk” is scheduled for 12:15 p.m., beginning on University Avenue in front of Trojan Arena and winding through Tailgate Terrace to Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.

Homecoming pre-game festivities will get under way at 2 p.m. in the stadium and kickoff for the Homecoming game against North Texas is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Halftime activities will include the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King, the presentation of the 2009 Alumni of the Year awards and performances by the Alumni Band and TROY’s “Sound of the South” marching band.
