Troy University Theatre hosts musical by alumnus

TROY – A Troy University alumnus’ work will once again grace the Trojan Center Theatre Friday with a production of the musical “Tinyard Hill.”

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are available for $5.

Troy University’s Department of Theatre and Dance, in cooperation with the Troy Arts Council and presented by the Red Mountain Theatre Company, will present the musical

“Tinyard Hill,” set in 1964 in an isolated farming community in Georgia, was written by Thomas Newman with musical score by Mark Allen.

A Georgia native, Newman is a book writer/composer-lyricist and a commissioned songwriter. In addition to his academic work at Troy University, he is a recent graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. In 2003, he was nationally recognized for his work at TROY by the American College Theatre Festival at the Kennedy Center and was the recipient of a fellowship at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center. His recent works includes lyricist/book writer for the full-length musicals “29” and “Band Geeks!”
