PHENIX CITY - Mark Baker, CEO of the Hughston Healthcare System, will deliver the keynote address to Troy University graduates in Columbus, Ga., on Friday, Jan. 15.
The joint fall commencement ceremony for the Phenix City Campus and the Columbus/Ft. Benning Site will be held at 7 p.m. inside the Columbus Georgia Convention and Trade Center. About 140 students will receive degrees during the ceremony.
Baker has served as CEO of the Hughston Healthcare System, including the Hughston Clinic and Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, since 2009.
His accomplishments as CEO include development of a multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center, Hughston Surgical Center, in 2011. Since becoming CEO, Baker oversaw the turnaround of a private 70-bed acute care hospital that Hughston Hospital, LLC purchased in 2008, Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital. Today, the hospital has been ranked among the “Top 5% in the Nation for Overall Orthopedic Services and Joint Replacement” for five years in a row (2012-2016) by Healthgrades America. Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital was also named one of Healthgrades America’s “100 Best Hospitals for Orthopaedic Surgery and Joint Replacement” for five years in a row (2012-2016).
Baker has been named to the “300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review and was appointed as a member of the Georgia Trauma Network Commission by the Lieutenant Governor in 2013. Baker is also a member of the American Hospital Association, American Association of Orthopaedic Executives and the Medical Group Management Association among many other affiliations. He is a licensed physical therapist and received both his BS and Physical Therapy degrees from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
