Wednesday, May 18, 9 a.m., Troy Elementary School Cafeteria: Troy University, Troy City Schools and Achilles International will conduct a recognition ceremony for children in Dana Haley's special education class. Eight students will receive awards from Achilles International for their efforts in running, walking or wheeling the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles).
Students will receive a certificate, medallion, a t-shirt and new tennis shoes, among other items during the presentation. Troy University's KHP 4462 Physical Education for Exceptional Children class assisted in the implementation of the program.

The event was moved to 9 a.m. in order to accommodate Police Memorial Day at Troy Police Department, scheduled for 10 a.m.
2016 Alabama Special Olympics
Friday – Sunday, May 20 – 22, Troy Campus: The 2016 Alabama Special Olympics State Games will begin on Friday, May 20 on the Troy Campus.
On Friday, law enforcement officers from throughout Alabama will participate in the torch run. The run will be in Troy between 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., near the Troy Police Department, then continuing on South Brundidge Street to University Avenue, onto campus and to Trojan Arena.
Opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. in Trojan Arena.

On Sunday, a first-ever exhibition baseball game will begin at 8 a.m. at Riddle-Pace Field, followed by the Closing Ceremonies at 9 a.m. in Trojan Arena.
