How to Become a Learning Center Tutor
The Troy University Learning Tutor Program provides students with an opportunity to assist fellow students with their academic work. Trained peer tutors offer in-person consulting at our Learning Center in 126 Eldridge Hall on the Troy Campus. Tutors work according to the peer tutor program mission statement and our tutor certification guidelines. Becoming a peer tutor gives you the opportunity to work with others on their writing, maths, and science skills and support effective learning processes. The program gives tutors important experience relating to people, working collaboratively, and engaging in rigorous thinking.
If you are an undergraduate, you must complete a Learning Center Foundations session by prior arrangement with the Learning Center Coordinator to have your application considered. Once you’ve completed a Foundations session, please send a letter of interest, C.V., and application via the Troy University HR system. If your experience and qualifications meet our standard, you will be contacted for an interview.
Applications are accepted twice a year, in the fall and spring semesters. We hire new tutors for each fall semester. Rarely, a position is available in the spring.
The fall 2019 application deadline has passed. The Spring 2020 application deadline has passed. The deadline to apply to the Program for Fall 2020 will be in January 2020; we expect to have 10 positions (a mix of writing, maths, and sciences roles) available for Fall.
