Writing Center FAQs

Questions About What We Do

Any student enrolled at TROY Campus of Troy University can  use the resources at the Writing Center at no cost to the student. The university provides our services for your benefit.

If you let us correct your paper, you won’t learn anything; therefore, we won’t do your work for you. We will, however, go over your paper with you and show you how to make corrections.

If you are a TROY Online student (or attend another location) and need assistance online, go to NetTutor located inside your Canvas course (on the left side menu).

Any TROY student who visits us in person on the Troy campus is welcome to use our services.

Questions About Hours and Scheduling

Yes and no.

During the summer semester, we offer drop-in tutoring from 9-2. We also offer appointment-based online tutoring at Zoom from 2-4, and you need to make an appointment for a Zoom session. You can make an appointment  here .

Fall is our busiest semester, so appointments are encouraged but not required.

Sometimes, arrangements can be made within reason to meet with writers for an online tutoring session. We understand that some of our writers work during the day and cannot get away for tutoring. Reach out to us at  wcenter@troy.edu to describe your needs and work with us to schedule a session.

Bring a copy of your assignment and a draft of your paper. If you’re still in the brainstorming stage, bring a copy of the assignment and notes of your ideas, and we’ll help you develop those ideas. A typed copy of your work is useful if you are in the editing stage of writing.

If you have scheduled a Zoom session, we will follow up with a request for your writing in progress (or assignment if you are just getting started); please send that file to us before the session begins.
