How to Become a Writing Center Tutor
The Troy University Writing Tutor Program provides students with an opportunity to assist fellow students with their writing. Trained peer writing tutors offer traditional in-person consulting at our Writing Center in 124 Eldridge Hall on the Troy Campus. Tutors work according to the peer writing tutor program mission statement and our tutor certification guidelines. Becoming a writing tutor gives you the opportunity to work with others on their writing and support effective writing processes. The program gives tutors important experience relating to people, working collaboratively, and engaging in rigorous thinking.
If you are an undergraduate, you must complete a Writing Center Foundations session by prior arrangement with the Writing Center Coordinator to have your application considered. Once you’ve completed a Foundations session, please send a letter of interest, C.V., writing sample, and application via the Troy University HR system. If your experience, writing, and qualifications meet our standard, you will be contacted for an interview.
Applications are accepted twice a year, in the fall and spring semesters. We hire new tutors for each fall semester. Rarely, a position is available in the spring.
