Competition: Outbreak Results

Outbreak logo

Infection within the human body begins to spread at the cellular level. Infected cells spread disease to neighboring cells rapidly, which then spread the disease to their neighboring cells, and so on as the infection grows to take over the body. BEST Robotics is experimenting with the use of micro-robotics to isolate infected cells from others and apply localized vaccines to slow or stop the spread. Robots that can operate at this level quickly and efficiently prove invaluable to the medical world.  In this year’s game micro-robots directed by medical professionals were capable of sampling, identifying, and separating individual cells to isolate the infected areas, as well as apply the vaccines where needed to immunize groups of cells to stop the “Outbreak”.

2020 BEST Robotics Game Field - Pike Co Schools Center for Advanced Academics & Accelerated Learning. Robotic is seeking infected cells on the game field. The small table is called a low platform where the cells can hide.
2020 BEST Robotics Game Field Set - Pike Co Schools Center for Advanced Academics & Accelerated Learning team members. Team members administering vaccine to infected cells. Each block is either an uninfected cell, infected cell, immune cell, or is a super vaccine. On this field you can see the high and the low platform where cells can be.

On the left, driver is in The drivers box, spotter is in the spotter’s box with remote and the robot is in starter box. Picture on right, is the 2020 BEST Robotics Game Field Straughn School team members driving robot and the spotter is testing the vaccine. The spotter is allowed to put the vaccine on the robot.
2020 BEST Robotics Game Field Zion Chapel School members. BEST Robotics Game is over and team members are testing cells for infection and adding up scores.
2020 BEST Robotics Game Field with Robot Demo Zion Chapel School team members are in the driver’s box, spotter’s box, and the robotic is moving the cells to the spotter. The spotter is waiting to get the cells so that he can test the vaccine.
