What is Student Appreciation Day?

On April 4th, 2018 the 4th Annual Troy University Student Appreciation Day will be held. We are currently accepting entries for our Essay Contest through April 14, 2018. Please see Application Form below.

Winning entries will receive $500.00 for textbooks from Barnes and Noble. We are grateful to Barnes and Noble for funding two of the $500 amounts and the Troy University Alumni Association for funding two of the $500 amounts. This prize will be delivered electronically and can be redeemed at any physical or online Barnes and Noble location for textbooks. In addition, winning entries will also be given one year (1 year) privileges for free as a member of the Troy Student Alumni Association. Additionally, we are grateful to our Chancellor, the Dean of Students Services Office, the Office of Development, Sodexo, Administrators, Faculty, Staff, and Students who all make this event possible.

Student Appreciation Day is April 4, 2018!

Events by location

Troy

Troy campus will celebrate Student Appreciation Day on April 4th between 10:00 AM and 2:30 PM. We will have refreshments on the Quad.

Troy Online

Trojan Café will be giving away TROY t-shirts, tumblers, and totes on April 4th. We serve thousands of TROY Online students, however, we open all of our online activities to ALL students. We are asking students to enter the random drawings now by submitting basic contact information at this link, and winners will be listed on our website.

Montgomery

Food, drinks, and bookstore merchandise give-away available at 11 AM – 1 PM and 4 – 6 PM; a scholarship give-away (register Tues. and Wed. 11 AM – 1 PM and 4 – 5:30 PM at Whitley Hall front desk); information tables for campus student organizations.

Dothan

Dothan campus activities will be held on April 4th. Pizza, drinks, drawings will be held.

Altamonte Springs/Orlando

Light refreshments and beverages will be available to all enrolled in-class and online students in the Orlando area. TROY giveaways also be handed out and we will hold a TROY T-shirt raffle at 6 PM. Announcements will be posted at the site and on our Facebook page.

Augusta

Goody bags will be available April 9-13 for students and alumni to come by and pick up.

Brunswick

Monday – Thursday evening classes: We will have treats (Food/Snacks) for each class, along with some “games” – Spin the Wheel, etc. for TROY swag and other prizes before classes and during breaks. On Wednesday, April 4, we will have games and prizes all day with food/refreshments.

Fayetteville

Refreshments and beverages will be available. There will be games, face painting, music and giveaways. The event will take place at the Eutaw Shopping Center Parking Lot at 2620 Bragg Blvd. Suite 5, Fayettevill, NC 28303 on April 4, 2018 from 12pm-6pm. Bring your family and friends!

Fort Walton Beach

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day on April 4th for all students in the Fort Walton Beach area. There will be a drawing for a TROY goodie bag with two winners – one in-class and one online student. Membership information for the Emerald Coast Alumni Chapter will also be available. Announcements will be posted at the site and on our Facebook page.

Hampton Roads

Hampton Roads will host a coffee and donuts event. Attendees will receive a gift bag of Troy goodies.

Panama City

All Panama City area students will be invited to join the faculty and staff at the Panama City Support Center for light refreshments throughout the day on April 4th. There will be a drawing for a TROY bag filled with goodies. Two winners will be selected – one in class and one online student will be chosen. Membership information for the Panama City Area Chapter of Troy University Alumni and Friends will be available as well. Announcements will be posted at the site and on our Facebook page.

Pensacola

All Pensacola area students will be invited to join the faculty and staff for light refreshments throughout the day on April 4th. The celebration for this event will include a verbal word of appreciation along with the presentation of a University promotional gift bag for in-class and online students in the Pensacola area. Membership information for the Pensacola Bay Area Chapter of Troy University Alumni and Friends will be available as well. Announcements will be posted at the site and on our Facebook page.

Phenix City

Week Long Event: April 2-April 5
Both Phenix City Campuses and the Columbus site will provide refreshments and give-a-ways, courtesy of corporate and community sponsors Monday through Thursday prior to class from 5:15pm-6:15pm EST. The following is a detailed description of the events: Monday, 4/2, Cure for Mondays, Sponsors: Papa Johns, Troy University - Tuesday, 4/3, Token Tuesday, Sponsors: Phenix City School District, Russell County School District, Epic Restaurant, Ride on Bikes, Brushes and Beverages, Creative South, Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Uncommon Athlete - Wednesday, 4/4, Whitewater Wednesday, Sponsors: Whitewater Express, Wade Cleaners - Thursday, 4/5, Trojan Thursday, Sponsors: Troy Bank & Trust, Troy University, Barnes and Noble Bookstore.

San Antonio

All online students in the San Antonio Area will be invited to come by the support center in the evening after work for a Student Appreciation Day Mixer. We will be giving away TROY swag, having cake and serving refreshments to the students. Announcements will be posted at the site and on our Facebook page.

Sumter

Light refreshments will be offered and there will be giveaways.

Tampa

Light refreshments will be available for students who come to the Ed Center on base. In addition, we will have a drawing for a goodie basket filled with TROY items. Social media and email correspondence will be posted thanking our students for their hard work and dedication to TROY. Announcements will be posted at the site and on our Facebook page.

Tyndall AFB

Light refreshments will be available for students who come to the Ed Center on base. In addition, we will have a drawing for a goodie basket filled with TROY items. 2018 Essay Contest Application

Who can enter this contest?

Any student currently enrolled in Troy University, either full or part-time, and in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) may enter this contest.

Do I have to attend the Troy University main campus?

No, any student, irrelevant of location, is eligible to enter this contest.

What is the theme of the contest?

The theme is “Making a Difference” at Troy University. This motto is not limited to a particular area of study, but one is encouraged to use his/her own career goals and current studies to show how he/she makes a difference at Troy University or plans to make a difference in the world with a Troy education. The essay will be especially judged on how well this topic is integrated in the narrative.

How is the contest being judged?

A panel of administrators and/or faculty members will use a rubric and will judge your entry based on creativity, organization, style, and relatability to the theme. All requirements must be met for an entry to be judged.

What are the requirements for an essay?

The essay should be no longer than 500 words, Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced, and uploaded as a Word document to the form.

What will the winner receive as a prize?

Winning entries will receive an amount of $500.00 to be used for textbooks at Barnes and Noble. This prize will be delivered electronically and can be redeemed at any physical Barnes and Noble location or online. In addition, winning entries will also be given one-year (1 year) privileges for free as a member of the TROY Student Alumni Association. Can I use my prize for textbooks?

Yes, you must use this $500.00 award towards textbooks either online or in a Barnes and Noble store.

Can I use an essay that I have entered in another contest before?

No. All entries must be the original work of the entrant. They must secure permission for any use of copyrighted materials.

If I win, will Troy be able to use my entry for marketing purposes?

Yes, winning entries may be used for marketing purposes by Troy University. Winning entries will be required to submit all copyright permissions and releases and submit a talent release form for Troy University.

How will I be notified if I am a winner?

The winner(s) will be announced on April 20, 2018 and made public via the Troy University website, various social media venues, and the Student Appreciation Day website.

Will I get an email verifying I am a winner?

Yes, you will also receive an email to your Troy University email account indicating you are a winner.

How many times can I enter?

You may enter the contest only one time.

How many students can win?

There will be a total of four (4) $500 awards granted.

If I entered the contest last year, may I submit an entry this year?

Yes. You may enter the contest this year, but the entry must be original.

May I enter this contest by email or hand deliver my entry?

No. All entries must be entered through the proper online portal, no later than Saturday, April 14th, 2018.

Do I need a reference letter?

No, however, you will need to list a faculty member’s name as a reference. These must be submitted online to the Student Appreciation Day Advisory Committee, via an electronic form. See the form above or at this link.

Are there any items that can disqualify my entry?

Yes. Any entries that contain any of the following material(s) or material deemed inappropriate by the judges will be disqualified: profanity, obscene material, endorsement of illegal drugs, alcohol abuse, or any other illegal activity, or implied commercial endorsement, derogatory characterization of any person or group based on age, race, gender, color, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, mental or physical disability, origin, political affiliation, or physical appearance.
