Sergeant First Class David E. Gurba entered the Army in February 2000 and completed OSUT training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky (A TRP, 5-15 CAV) as a 19D Cavalry Scout. His military education includes the United States Army Pathfinder School; Airborne School; Jumpmaster School; the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leader Course; Combat Life Saver Course; Combatives Level I; Primary Leadership Development Course; Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course; and the Maneuver Senior Leader Course.

SFC Gurba’s duty assignments and position include Ft. Hood, TX (HHC 2-5 CAV) and Ft. Bragg, NC (B TRP, 1-73 CAV). He has held every position from Rifleman to Platoon Sergeant. His deployments and combat experience include Operation Desert Spring in Kuwait; Operation Unified Response in Haiti; and combat operations in Iraq during OIF II, OIF V, OIF VI, and Operation New Dawn. SFC Gurba is currently a Military Science Instructor at Troy University in Troy, Alabama.

SFC Gurba’s awards, decorations, and badges include the Bronze Star Medal for Valor; the Bronze Star Medal; the Purple Heart Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal; the Army Commendation Medal With (2) Oak Leaf Cluster; the Army Achievement Medal With (4) Oak Leaf Cluster; the Army Good Conduct Medal (3) Knots; the National Defense Service Medal; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; the Iraqi Campaign Medal (1) Silver Campaign Star; the Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal; the Humanitarian Service Medal; the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3); The Army Service Ribbon; the Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2); the Meritorious Unit Award; the Valorous Unit Award; the Army Superior Unit Award; the Combat Action Badge; the Senior Parachutist Badge; the Pathfinder Badge; and the Driver’s Badge. SFC Gurba has also been awarded The Order of St. George.
