Defending Champs: Trojans have won at least a share of the last four Sun Belt crowns

For the last four years, the road to the Sun Belt Conference football title has gone through Troy, Alabama.

The Trojans have won the last two conference crowns outright and shared the title the two previous years. Last year, TROY marched through the conference schedule with an unblemished 8-0 record en route to the GMAC Bowl in Mobile.

The Trojans will kick off the 2010 season on Sept. 4 as they welcome Bowling Green State to Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Trojans will look to avenge last year’s 31-14 season-opening loss to the Falcons in Bowling Green, OH.

The following week, the Trojans will hit the road to Stillwater, OK, to tangle with Oklahoma State. TROY defeated the Cowboys at home during the 2007 season, but lost 55-24 in Stillwater in 2008.

On Sept. 18, the Trojans will travel up I-65 to Birmingham’s historic Legion Field to take on the UAB Blazers. TROY defeated the Blazers at Veterans Memorial Stadium last season 27-14.

The following week, the Trojans will kick off the Sun Belt Conference season as they play host to Arkansas State on Sept. 25. TROY edged the Red Wolves 30-27 last year in Jonesboro on the strength of Levi Brown’s fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Cornelius Williams.

The Trojans will travel to Murfreesboro, TN on Oct. 5 to face Middle Tennessee State. Kickoff for the Tuesday night game, which will be broadcast on ESPN2, is set for 7 p.m.
The Trojans have won four straight over the Blue Raiders, including last year’s 31-7 victory in front of the home crowd.

The Trojans will continue their Sun Belt Conference schedule on Oct. 16 as they host the Louisiana-Lafayette Rajun Cajuns. TROY outlasted Lafayette in the regular-season finale for both teams 48-31 to wrap up a perfect 8-0 conference mark and the outright conference crown.

TROY will take the road the next two weeks of the season with games at Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 30 and at North Texas on Nov. 6.

On Nov. 13, the Trojans will return to Veterans Memorial Stadium to celebrate Homecoming against Florida International. Kickoff for the game is set for 2:30 p.m.

After a brief reprieve from the road, the Trojans will finish out the final three weeks of the regular season with road trips to Columbia, SC to face the Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina on Nov. 20 and to Boca Raton, FL to face off against conference foe Florida Atlantic on Dec. 4.

Sandwiched between the two road trips is the Trojans’ final home game of the season on Nov. 27 as Western Kentucky comes to town.

Season ticket packages are now on sale. For additional information on ticket packages, individual game tickets or away game tickets, contact the TROY Ticket Office at 1-877-878-WINS (9467) or visit the Trojans Website at
