Founding member deadline for TROY Shield Society fast approaching; Gala activities slated for January

For those interested in becoming a part of Troy University’s most influential society, time is running out.

The deadline to become a founding member of the TROY Shield Society is Dec. 31, and Director of Planned Giving Ward Sullivan encourages those interested to get on board now.

“The opportunity to become a founding member is quickly coming to a close,” Sullivan said. “Those who are interested in becoming a founding member of the TROY Shield Society need to make their intentions known as soon as possible by contacting the Office of Planned Giving.”

The TROY Shield Society represents a group of members who have chosen to support the work of the Troy University Foundation through bequests, trusts or other deferred gifts.

In gratitude for their generosity, the University bestows special consideration, including an annual induction ceremony and gala in their honor along with a specially designed ornamental pin, which is a miniature replica of the Trojan Shield adorning the statue in the Bibb Graves Quadrangle.

The inaugural gala for founding members is scheduled for January.

“On Jan. 30, we will have a dinner and a pinning ceremony,” Sullivan said. “On Jan. 31, we will present medallions to the founding members with a reception following at the Stadium Club.”

In order to be inducted into the TROY Shield Society, honorees simply complete a standard letter of intent form and return it to the Office of Planned Giving of the Troy University Foundation. Gifts of this nature may be funded utilizing cash, appreciated securities, life insurances or real estate and may carry tax advantages, as well as in some cases provide a guaranteed source of income for the giver or a loved one.

“These generous contributions help to support the mission of Troy University for generations to come,” Sullivan said. “The University is exceedingly grateful for these special contributions and the impact they have on the life and mission of Troy University.”
