Gearhart named eCampus director

TROY – Troy University officials have named Dr. Deb Gearhart director of the University’s eCampus, the branch of University College that oversees all online learning at the University.

With more than 20 years of experience in online and distance education, Dr. Gearhart, was named to the post in June after serving as founding director of E-Education Services at Dakota State University for the past 11 years. Prior to that, she was affiliated with Pennsylvania State University’s Department of Distance Education for 10 years.

“We are very fortunate to have been able to recruit a person with such a full range of online education leadership experience,” said Dr. Earl Ingram, vice chancellor of University College. “With Dr. Gearhart leading the eCampus, TROY soon will be recognized as a world-class provider of education to adult and traditional learners by combining the best of both online and in-class teaching methods.”

Dr. Gearhart earned her doctorate in Education with a certificate in distance education from Capella University after completing a master of public administration degree and a master of education in adult education at Penn State. Her undergraduate degree in sociology was completed at Indian University of Pennsylvania.

“I am so happy and excited to be part of Troy University,” Dr. Gearhart said. “I was drawn to TROY because of its excellent distance-learning program, and the eCampus’ reach makes it one of the top programs in the nation.”

While at Dakota State University, Dr. Gearhart was an associate professor for educational technology at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and co-authored a textbook entitled “Designing and Developing Web-Based Instruction.”
