Sen. Jeff Sessions to speak to Education faculty

1 p.m.: U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions address College of Education faculty members regarding the Alabama Reading Initiative and the Reading First Program. The address will take place in the Hall of Honor at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24.

Troy University ROTC student to receive first salute from brother serving in Iraq

11 a.m.: Troy University’s Army ROTC program will have a special commissioning ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. in the Trojan Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Cadet Eric J. Sattelberg will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Part of the ceremony will include a “first salute” from his brother, Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Sattelberg, who is stationed in Iraq, via television monitor. The long-distance salute will be made possible by Freedom Calls Foundation.

The ceremony will feature remarks by General (retired) Gerald O. Dial, a member of the Troy University Board of Trustees.

Media wishing to cover this ceremony should be in place by 10:45 a.m. on August 24. Available for interview will be 2nd Lt. Sattelberg, and Capt. Jim Holder, Troy University Army ROTC.
