Media Advisory: Disaster Drill scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26

10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: As part of Safety Week activities, a disaster drill is scheduled on the Troy Campus between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. This drill will simulate a fire in a lab of the Math and Science Complex, located on the Quad and adjacent to University Avenue. The drill is designed to test communication and response aspects of the University and community.

Media outlets may publicize the contents of this media advisory, but are requested to confine any announcements to the following:

  • A disaster drill will be conducted on Sept. 26 on the Troy Campus.
  • Police and fire units will be on scene.
  • University Avenue will be closed during the drill between the traffic signals at Sartain Hall and Alumni Hall.
  • Some University buildings will be evacuated.
  • Alert and notification systems on campus will be activated including fire alarms, emergency text messaging, emergency telephone messaging, emergency email notifications, and outdoor warning sirens (on campus)

The drill scenario calls for the evacuation of the Math and Science Complex and Cowart Hall, a dormitory that backs up to the Math and Science Complex. It also calls for the evacuation of the Adams Administration Building. The Troy Fire Department will be on-scene, as will the Troy Police Department and other emergency responders. During the drill, the portion of University Avenue between Sartain Hall and Alumni Hall will be closed by law enforcement. Campus traffic will be diverted around Luther Drive.

During the drill, fire alarms will be activated, as will emergency notification systems on the Troy Campus, including a campus warning siren system.
