TROY – Troy University has appointed a new senior vice chancellor and assigned new duties to an existing administrator as part of a reorganization of the University’s leadership team, according to Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. Chancellor.

Richard J. Federinko, a TROY alumnus who has been president of Middle Georgia College since 2002, is the new addition. Dr. Federinko will serve as senior vice chancellor for student services and administration. Dr. John Schmidt, who joined the University administration in 1994, will move from his position of Senior Vice Chancellor of Student Services to the post of Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement and External Relations.

Both moves were made necessary by the retirements, effective Dec. 31, of Dr. Douglas Patterson, Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration, and Dr. Cameron Martindale, Senior Vice Chancellor of Advancement and External Relations.

Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., said the reorganization will ensure a continuation of strong leadership at the top level of TROY’s administration.

“I have a great appreciation for the leadership provided by Dr. Patterson and Dr. Martindale and with the new appointments we will not slow down in our quest to become a premier international university,” Chancellor Hawkins said. “Dr. Federinko has marshaled a new era for Middle Georgia College and is an experienced leader who knows the key to success lies in growth and sustaining the highest quality in all that we do. Dr. John Schmidt is both an outstanding administrator and a proven performer in the advancement division. I am confident that under the leadership of these capable professionals that ‘the best is yet to be’ for Troy University.”

Dr. Schmidt served as Vice President for Advancement from 1996 until 1999, where he led the University’s first capital campaign called “The Quest for Excellence.” Dr. Schmidt, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he rose to the rank of colonel, has served as the senior administrator for student services at TROY since 1999.

Dr. Federinko holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from TROY, and completed his doctorate in higher education administration at Florida State University. Prior to accepting the president’s role at Middle Georgia, he was president of Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City and from 1986-1993 he served as president of Southern Union State Junior College in Wadley.

He has also held administrative positions at James H. Faulkner State Junior College, Lurleen B. Wallace State Junior College, Florida State University and was a member of the Troy University staff from 1971-1977.
