TROY – More than 370 high school bands members will take part in the 35th Annual Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic and Honor Bands at Troy University Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
Some 104 bands primarily from Alabama, Georgia and Florida will be represented during the clinic.
Dr. Larry Blocher, Director of Music, said that the SEUS clinic is a great opportunity for the high school students.
“The SEUS clinic provides an opportunity for them to play with honor bands and audition for scholarships if they choose to,” said Blocher. He also said that students will be able to listen to several music groups and ensembles from TROY as well as guest high schools who have been invited by auditions.
This concert will include featured performances by the Troy University Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Chamber Ensemble directed by Raymond Smith and Bryden Atwater on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. and by the Troy University Symphony Band conducted by Ralph Ford on Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.
The guest bands that will also be performing are the Auburn High School Band, the Cairo High Symphony Band, the Rocky Bayou Christian School Symphonic Band and the Savannah Arts Academy Silver Winds Ensemble.
The guest Composer-in-residence will be Sean O’Loughlin and the 2008 Honor Band Conductors will be Fred Allen, Stephen F. Austin State University; Douglas Macaulay, West Vancouver Youth Band; and Larry Blocher, Troy University.
