During a veterans’ reception at Troy University, Alex McMahan, TROY assistant director of Financial Aid and Veterans’ Affairs, presents a 50-dollar savings bond and certificate to 14-year-old Sydney Woodham (center). The Midland City teen, who is pictured with her mother, Janet Woodham, is one of six Fleet Reserve Association essay contest winners in the region. The students wrote about why they are proud to be Americans. The Fleet Reserve is made up of current and former enlisted members of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The University also collected “thank-you” notes for soldiers serving overseas, during the event on the Dothan Campus.
