Troy University’s annual Alumni Reunion set for March 28-29

TROY, ALA—Troy University is extending an invitation to all alumni to attend the University’s annual Spring Reunion weekend, March 28-29, on the Troy Campus.

Alumni Affairs Director Faith Ward said the event provides alumni with the opportunity to reconnect with former classmates, as well as the University.

“The annual alumni reunion is a great chance for alumni to return to campus to renew old friendships and see the tremendous growth that is taking place here at Troy University,” Ward said. “This year, we will pay special tribute to graduates from the classes of 1948, 1958, 1968, 1978, 1988 and 1998. In addition to our annual activities, we also will be offering a band party for young alumni this year. We are excited about the activities we have planned, and I would like to encourage all of our alumni and friends to join us for a great time of fellowship.”

Spring Reunion events will kick off on Friday with an alumni cookout and a reunion of football players from the Jim Grantham era. Grantham was the University’s 11th football coach, serving as head coach from 1951-1954. The Grantham reunion and cookout will begin at 4:30 p.m. on March 28 at the University’s Alumni House, located at the corners of Highland Avenue and George Wallace Drive.

The Trojans’ baseball team will host New Orleans in a Sun Belt Conference contest at newly renovated Riddle-Pace Field beginning at 6 p.m.

Also on March 28, TROY’s Pike County Alumni Chapter will play host to a “Trojan Hold’em” poker tournament. The event, which will be held at 7 p.m. in the Stadium Club, is a fundraising effort of the Chapter with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the renovation of Bibb Graves Hall on the Troy Campus. Reunion activities on Saturday, March 29 include a “Spring Fling” parade down University Avenue at noon, a lunch for former athletic letter winners at 12:30 p.m., a spring football scrimmage in Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium at 1:30 p.m., a cocktail reception in the Trojan Center Board room at 5:30 p.m. and the annual Alumni Reunion Banquet in the Trojan Center Ballrooms at 6 p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $25 each, which includes admission to the reception.

The band party for young alumni will round out the day’s activities at 9 p.m. on the Shackelford Quad.
