DOTHAN – Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., has tapped Dr. Khamis Bilbeisi of Dothan to serve as interim associate dean of the Sorrell College of Business. In this capacity, Dr. Bilbeisi will oversee business programs on the Dothan Campus and at the Fort Rucker Location. He takes the place of Dr. Adair Gilbert, who recently retired after more than 25 years of service to the University.
Dr. Bilbeisi joined the TROY faculty in 1986. In addition to acting as interim associate dean, he will continue to teach accounting courses and serve as chairman of the department of accounting, economics, finance and business law, a position he has held since 1995. Over the years, the native of Jordan has also taught courses for Troy University in Taiwan, India and Germany.
“I am proud to be part of the Sorrell College of Business for the past 22 years,” Dr. Bilbeisi said, “and I am looking forward to serving the University and the community in this new capacity.”
Dr. Don Hines, dean of the Sorrell College of Business, said Dr. Bilbeisi was the right choice for the position because he already has the respect of the faculty in Dothan.
“I am pleased he has agreed to accept the position on an interim basis,” Dr. Hines said. “We have worked well together over the past two years, and I think we will be able to move forward while we are in the process of filling the position permanently.”
Dr. Bilbeisi’s leadership abilities will help propel the Sorrell College of Business in new directions, according to Dr. Don Jeffrey, Dothan Campus vice chancellor.
“Because of his dedication and leadership, we have an outstanding accounting program in Dothan that produces students who excel on their CPA exam,” Dr. Jeffrey said. “I look forward to great things from Dr. Bilbeisi as he takes on this new leadership role and helps to shape other programs within the Sorrell College of Business.”
Dr. Bilbeisi holds a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Mississippi, a master’s in accounting from the University of Georgia and a bachelor’s from the University of Jordan.
In 1989 and 2001, the Sorrell College of Business presented Dr. Bilbeisi with the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award, and he was the recipient of the Alabama Associations of Higher Education in Business Faculty Award in 1990. Active in the community and in professional organizations, Dr. Bilbeisi is a member of the American Accounting Association, Institute of Management Accountants, Delta Mu Delta Honor Society and Beta Alpha Psi. He has been named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers nine times.
