Former mayor to address TROY graduates

TROY – Former Andalusia mayor and Troy University alumnus Earl Johnson will provide the commencement address at his alma mater July 25.

Some 275 students from 13 states and 10 foreign countries will take part in commencement exercises at 10:30 a.m. in Sartain Hall.

Johnson, who served as Andalusia’s 24th mayor from 2000 until 2004, earned his undergraduate degree in business administration and economics from the University in 1970. He went on to complete his doctor of jurisprudence at Samford’s Cumberland School of Law. He has been a practicing attorney in Andalusia since 1974.

A member of the Troy University National Alumni Association Board of Directors and vice-chairman of the Troy University Foundation Board of Directors, Johnson was named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 1999. In 2004, he was again honored by TROY with its Distinguished Leadership Award.

A member of the State Bar Board of Commissioners from 1974-2001, Johnson is a past-president of the Andalusia Rotary Club, past-chairman of the World Championship Domino Tournament and has served as chairman of the Andalusia Industrial Development Board. Currently, he is a member of the board of directors of Wachovia Bank and remains in private practice in Andalusia.
