TROY -- Troy University’s Office of Information Technology has been named a finalist in the 2009 SC Awards program for outstanding achievement in information-technology security.
TROY’s Information Technology Security Team was recognized in the Professional Award category and was nominated by an IT security vendor. That nomination was judged by a panel of 18 chief information security officers from both the public and private sectors.
“Troy IT’s recognition as a finalist for the SC security award is complimentary of our efforts to promote a safe computing model at Troy University,” said Chief Information Officer Greg Price. “Through a layered approach to end-user security, we foster a heightened awareness of IT security, pursuing a homogeneous computing environment. The recognition is reflective of the dedication of TROY’s IT security team and the great job they perform each day.”
TROY operates a global data network with more than 40,000 end-users, interacting with an environment that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
TROY’s information technology department has been conducting security research for about 15 years and is a partner with the Department of Justice. TROY IT regularly partners with the Alabama Bureau of Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigations and operates the Computer Forensics Institute to aid law enforcement at local, state and federal levels. Through the department, the University holds several provisional patents on data security devices, Price said.
“Congratulations to Troy University. This year’s SC Awards finalists represent individuals and teams that are at the heart of their company’s security program and are creating innovative and cutting-edge policies,” said SC Magazine Editor-in-Chief Illena Armstrong.
The annual SC Awards have recognized security’s key contributors and outstanding products for more than a decade. As the industry’s preeminent award program, individuals, brands and products shortlisted address not only the challenges prominent today, but also the emerging threat landscape of tomorrow. Winners of this year’s awards will be announced at gala dinner and award ceremony to be held in San Francisco on April 21, 2009.
