Troy University to host Piano Ensemble Camp in June

Posted: Tuesday, 31 March 2009

Troy, Ala. – In an effort to motivate students through music, Troy University’s John M. Long School of Music will present an innovative summer piano camp for students, ages 10-18.

The camp will offer students the opportunity to team up with partners to learn ensemble pieces that will be performed at completion of the program. Students will receive training in theory, sight-reading and improvisation.

The camp offers beginner, junior and senior sessions that will consist of daily individual lessons in a master class format where students will be introduced to piano literature and keyboard harmony and technique.

“We want to encourage piano playing in the community and provide a way for multiple pianists to play together,” said Gwen Threadgill, program organizer and a lecturer in the School of Music.

The piano camp is scheduled for June 23-26, with classes from 1 to 4 p.m. daily. Students are encouraged to register early. There is a fee of $125 with a $50 non-refundable payment, which includes all materials and a t-shirt.
