DOTHAN—The Troy University Community Band of Dothan will take listeners on a tour of American music during a free concert on Monday, April 13.

The performance will start at 7 p.m. in Sony Hall inside the Library Technology building at TROY’s Dothan Campus.

Band director Andy Fariss said the 45-minute concert will highlight songs in a variety of classic American styles including Dixieland jazz, country, John Philip Sousa marches and Broadway musicals.

“It will be a snapshot of various American musical themes,” Fariss said.

The performance is the first event of the weeklong Heritage Week celebration at the Dothan Campus, which continues on Tuesday, April 14, with the annual John Woodham Memorial Lecture series.

The Troy University Community Band of Dothan is a group of musicians of all ages and backgrounds including TROY alumni, Fariss said. The group rehearses on Mondays at Honeysuckle Middle School in Dothan.

“We’re a community of folks who play simply because we love music,” Fariss said.
