TROY Army ROTC to expand to Dothan Campus

DOTHAN – A pilot program being launched this fall by Troy University’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps will allow students at the Dothan Campus to enroll in ROTC courses.

The move marks the first time the University’s Army ROTC program has offered courses outside of the Troy Campus.

The pilot program will create a new option for TROY students who want to enroll in Army ROTC but are unable to commute to the Troy Campus, said Army ROTC instructor Major Robert O. Holmstrom.

“Our goal is to reach out to students who, for whatever reason, have been unable to get [to Troy] for ROTC,” Holmstrom said.

In the fall, freshman level Army ROTC courses will be offered at the Dothan Campus. Depending on participation, the program could expand to include sophomore courses the following year.

Cadets on the Dothan Campus will be eligible for all Army ROTC scholarships and financial considerations to which they would be qualified at any other campus offering Army ROTC, Holmstrom said.

Army ROTC cadets take a full academic course load including a military science minor that provides the specialized knowledge needed as a commissioned officer. Upon gradation from TROY and completion of the Army ROTC program cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants.
