TROY—Veteran journalist and former newspaper publisher Steve Stewart has been named assistant professor of journalism at Troy University’s Hall School of Journalism and Communication.

Stewart, most recently weekend editor and Internet supervisor at The Decatur Daily, and a prior managing editor there, was editor and publisher of The Monroe Journal, working his way up through the family-owned newspaper for 23 years.

Stewart is a former president of the Alabama Press Association, the APA Journalism Foundation, the Alabama Newspaper Advertising Service, the Alabama Associated Press Managing Editors and is a former Southeastern regional board member of the National Newspaper Association.

“We are honored and delighted to augment our longstanding commitment to providing the best classroom and hands-on education by naming Professor Stewart to the Hall School’s faculty,” said Dr. Steve Padgett, the School’s director. “His wide range of highly respected professional and academic experience, his passion for teaching and his knowledge of current issues facing the print industry will add an important dimension to our program that will enhance the school’s growing reputation.”

Stewart, who will officially begin his faculty duties in August, earned a bachelors degree in journalism at the University of Georgia, and completed a masters degree in the field from the University of Alabama.
