TROY, Ala.—The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for the First Year College Students has awarded a Gold Delta Award to Troy University’s chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta.

The Delta Award is part of a national awards program honoring those chapters whose memberships has increased dramatically in the past year.

In 2008-2009, Troy University’s chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta initiated 98 new members, up 69 percent over last year’s class of initiates.

The chapter advisors, Buffie Alloway and Tamara Jones, were honored to receive the award.

“It is a tremendous honor,” said Alloway. “We have been working for the past three years to increase the number of eligible students taking advantage of the opportunity to be a part of a valuable honor society such as this.”

Jones said a number of factors led to the TROY chapter’s recognition.

“I was very pleased,’ said Jones. “It is a combination of things, the development of the First Year Studies program, the Reading Initiative and the quality of the students has made a big difference. The award also shows the quality of freshman students Troy University is recruiting.”
