TROY, Ala.—Troy University will honor our nation’s veterans with a special ceremony and a free concert on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
TROY’s Student Government Association (SGA) will sponsor “America the Beautiful,” a ceremony honoring American troops at noon on Nov. 10 on the Bibb Graves quadrangle on the Troy Campus. The student-led ceremony will feature the presentation of colors, the singing of the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful” and presentation of the service song of each branch of the military.
SGA President Jonathan Davis said that veterans from Troy and surrounding communities have been invited to participate in the ceremony.
“We hope that everyone will come out and be a part of this ceremony as we honor those who have served and continue to serve our great nation,” Davis said.
At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts and the John M. Long School of Music will present a free Veterans Day Concert in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus. The TROY Symphony Band under the baton of Ralph Ford, the University’s director of bands, will present a tribute to the armed forces including classic overtures, works by American composers and a selection of patriotic music.
The Symphony Band will also perform “A Salute to Our Nation’s Veterans” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts on TROY’s Montgomery Campus.
“This concert serves as a thank you to our nation’s veterans and their families,” said Dr. Kristen J. Koehler, director of the Davis Theatre. “We are grateful for their service to our country, and we are proud to have this annual concert on our University Series with our own Troy University Symphony Band under the talented leadership of Ralph Ford.”
Tickets for the Davis Theatre performance are $10. Veterans with identification will be admitted for $5. For further information, contact the Davis Theatre office at 334-241-9567.
