TROY, Ala.—Dr. Hal Fulmer has assumed the duties of interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, according to Dr. Ed Roach, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost.

Dr. Fulmer, who serves as Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, takes over for Dr. Bill Richardson, who retired in December. Dr. Fulmer has also served as Dean of the College of Communications and Fine Arts at Troy University.

“Dr. Fulmer is the right person to lead our College of Arts and Sciences as we seek a permanent dean,” Dr. Roach said. “He is familiar with every department in the college. I am sure he will do an outstanding job.”

The College of Arts and Sciences at Troy University consists of Army and Air Force ROTC, biological sciences, chemistry, criminal justice and social sciences, English, history, mathematics and physics and political science.

Dr. Fulmer pointed out that as the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, he has worked closely with Arts and Sciences as the majority of general-study courses are taught in this college.

“The arts and sciences form the foundation of a university education,” Dr. Fulmer said. “The work of this college has the potential to shape the student body as a whole and Troy University is fortunate to have many outstanding scholars in this college. I am looking forward to working more closely with the students and the faculty.”

Dr. Fulmer, who came to Troy University in 2002, received his Ph.D. in speech communication from Louisiana State University, his master of arts degree in speech communication from the University of Georgia and his bachelor of science degree in communication arts from Georgia Southern University.

Dr. Fulmer is married to Judy Brighton Fulmer, Director of Sponsored Programs at Troy University, and they have one son, Jonah, a senior at Charles Henderson High School.
