TROY Public Radio has Spring Friendraiser activities

TROY—Troy University Public Radio will host a series of “Ambassadors of the Airwaves” March 19 – 26 as community guests take to their airwaves during the Spring Friendraiser.

This year’s fund drive aims to raise some $50,000 to provide favorite radio programs like “Morning Edition,” “All Things Considered,” “Performance Today,” “Car Talk,” “On Point,” “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Dick Estell’s Radio Reader,” “From the Top,” and “Marketplace Money.”

In addition to pledges from individuals, corporate challengers add their own special incentive to the event by matching dollar-for-dollar pledged by individuals. Many supporters become day and week sponsors and are acknowledged on the radio during their chosen day or week.

“This is a time when we salute our members and listeners in central and southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle,” said Buddy Johnson, director of the Troy University Broadcast and Digital Network. “We have been able to sustain quality programming in the current state of the economy because of the vital support of our listeners.”

TROY Public Radio, which operates FM stations at 89.9 Troy/Montgomery, 88.7 Dothan and 91.7 Phenix City/Columbus, GA, also set a standard for digital broadcasting with the institution of HD hybrid digital radio technology, offering listeners three clear-signal HD channels with round-the-clock British Broadcasting Company’s World News Service, classical music and its regular station programming.

Listeners may send tax-deductible contributions to Troy University Public Radio, Wallace Hall, Troy University, Troy, AL 36082, call toll-free at 800-800-6616 or pledge online at and clicking on Public Radio under the Information Quick Links.
