TROY—For nine dancers from Troy University, the opportunity to dance in the People’s Republic of China as part of the celebration of the Sino-American 1-2-1 Dual Degree Program’s 10th anniversary is monumental.
The TROY Dance Repertory Ensemble will perform, among other venues, in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China June 22.
“The opportunity for our dancers to perform in the Great Hall of the People is beyond belief -- it would be like dancing in the White House or Buckingham Palace,” said Dr. Maryjo Cochran, dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
“Truly, it is the opportunity of a lifetime,” she said.
The ensemble will undertake a 15-day tour of China with performances scheduled throughout the tour. They will perform a preview of “Dress for China” at 7:30 p.m. June 15 in Claudia Crosby Theater. The showcase performance is free and open to the public.
Last fall, TDRE performed on the Troy Campus with the dance ensemble from Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology.
“How exciting to complete the circle of international collaboration by having our students travel to China and perform not only at HUNST, but in Beijing for the 10th anniversary celebration of the 1-2-1 Program,” Dr. Cochran said.
