MONTGOMERY—Tickets are on sale now for the Rosa Parks Museum’s 10th anniversary celebration featuring a performance by Tony Award-winning actress and playwright Sarah Jones.
Jones will present her critically acclaimed one-woman show "An Evening with Sarah Jones" on Monday, Nov. 29, at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the festival stage.
Troy University's Rosa Parks Museum will mark its first decade of operation in December. Constructed on the site of the Empire Theatre where Rosa Parks was famously arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery Bus, the museum opened in December 2000 with the mission of preserving and interpreting the story and lasting legacy of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
In its first 10 years the museum has become a major downtown landmark and has garnered state and national recognition, including a 2008 award from the Themed Entertainment Association for the museum's interactive children's exhibit, the Cleveland Avenue Time Machine.
Jones is well known for multi-character solo show "Bridge & Tunnel," which was originally produced Off-Broadway by Oscar-winner Meryl Streep and went on to become an acclaimed, long running hit on Broadway. Most recently, Jones was invited by First Lady Michelle Obama to perform at The White House in celebration of Women's History Month. She is currently at work on a commission for Lincoln Center Theater and is developing a television project based on her characters.
Tickets for the benefit performance range from $35 to $75. For ticket information, call 1-800-841-4273 or visit .
