TROY—A world renowned Chinese dance troupe will bring its blend of traditional and modern dance to Troy University at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 16.

The performance by the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company will take place in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus and is presented by the University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts and the Troy Arts Council.

The San Francisco-based company, under the artistic direction of Lily Cai, offers contrasting views of Chinese culture, demonstrating dances of both power and grace.

Tickets are $20 for the public and $5 for students and children, and are available through or at the door on the night of the performance.

In conjunction with the performance, a lecture on Chinese culture and tradition and an opportunity to meet members of the company will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15 in the Trojan Center Theatre. Members of the dance company will also conduct a ballet master class for intermediate and advanced dancers at 6 p.m. on Monday in the Elm Street studio. Both the lecture and the Master Class are open to the public.

“The Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company offers the Troy Community an opportunity they are only likely to experience were they to visit either the opera houses of China or the stages of San Francisco,” said Deborah Hicks, coordinator of the TROY Dance Repertory Ensemble. “Lily Cai’s company will theatrically transport Troy’s audience across the seas by blending America’s modern dance with China’s traditional folk dance, full of spectacle and color. It isn’t every day that we have an opportunity like this in our own back yard.”
