MONTGOMERY—Gen. John A. Shaud, director of the Air Force Research Institute at Maxwell Air Force Base, will deliver the keynote address to graduates at Troy University’s Montgomery Campus during fall commencement on Tuesday, Dec. 14.
The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. inside the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. More than 180 students will receive graduate and undergraduate degrees this fall at the Montgomery Campus.
As director of the Air Force Research Institute, Gen. Shaud oversees a team of researchers, editors and communicators charged with conducting independent research, outreach, and engagement to enhance national security and assure the effectiveness of the U.S. Air Force.
Gen. Shaud retired from active duty in 1991 after 35 years of service. His last active duty position was of chief of staff of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. A command pilot with more than 5,600 flying hours, Gen. Shaud has flown in more than 35 different types of aircraft, including the B-47 and B-52. His military decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster and the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster. He is also a former faculty member at the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB.
Adena Moree, director of theatre and dance, said that participation in the Pied Pipers connects first year students not only to the department but to the history of the university.
Gen Shaud is a native of Ohio. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy, a master’s degree from George Washington University and a doctorate from Ohio State University.
