TROY -- Troy's RIsk Management & Insurance Program will host its annual Excess & Surplus Lines Symposium at the Embassy Suites in Birmingham on September 9 and 10.
Dr. Carol Jordan, Eminent Scholar in Risk Management and Insurance, said the symposium will "serve to introduce business students to insurance topics that are pertinent but generally are not covered in the classroom." The event will also afford participants the opportunity to interact with fellow university students and industry executives interested in students of insurance for possible jobs or internships.
Industry professionals can attend the educational sessions on Saturday and earn continuing education credit, she said.
The event will begin with a Career Fair on Friday afternoon with the following companies in attendance: Quirk of San Antonio, Markel Insurance Corp, AllRisks, Ace Westchester, Burlington Insurers, Westrope, Johnson & Johnson, Peachtree Specialty Brokers, U.S.Risk, First Financial, Insurance House, Burns & Wilcox, and CRC.
Speakers at the Saturday meetings include Alabama Commissioner Jim Ridling, Pat Talley of Lloyd's North America, Patti Berry, vice-president of Peachtree Special RIsk Brokers, Marcus Payne of AllRisks, DIck Bouhan, executive director of NAPSLO, Brittany Thompson-Broderway, marine underwriter of RLI, Jackie Jacobs, professional liability broker at Peachtree, and Chance Gilliland, property underwriter at AceGroup in London.
TROY RMI students will be joined by students from the University of Georgia, Georgia State, Florida State, Middle Tennessee State, Central Arkansas, University of WIsconsin, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Illinois State, North Texas and St. Mary's for this year's Symposium.
