TROY - Troy University alumnus Jim Harvey will sign copies of his novel “Grayton Beach Affair” at Barnes & Noble bookstore on the Troy Campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The novel, Harvey’s first, is set in the Florida Panhandle against the backdrop of World War II and combines war action, danger, intrigue and romance. Harvey, who grew up outside of Monroeville, was a 1967 business graduate from TROY. Following graduation, he began a career with IBM while working toward his law degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in Atlanta. He later began a second career in commercial real estate brokerage and development in Atlanta, advancing to vice president of one of Atlanta’s largest office park developers. Following his retirement from the real estate business, Harvey called on stories he had heard from his childhood to pen “Grayton Beach Affair.” He is currently working on a second novel. “Writing a well-written novel requires a tremendous amount of research, writing, rewriting, editing and rewriting again,” Harvey said. “It demands commitment and passion for the subject matter and characters.” Saturday’s book signing is part of the University homecoming celebration. Activities get under way on Saturday at 10 a.m. in downtown Troy with the annual Homecoming parade, presented by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce. Trojan Walk is set for 12:15 p.m., beginning at Sartain Hall and winding down University Avenue, through Tailgate Terrace to Veterans Memorial Stadium. Pre-game activities will get under way at 2 p.m., including the introduction of the Homecoming Court and a performance by the Sound of the South Marching Band. Kickoff for TROY’s homecoming match up against Arkansas State is set for 2:30 p.m. Halftime festivities will include the crowning of the homecoming queen, recognition of the Alumni of the Year, a performance by the Sound of the South and the Alumni Band.
