Citizen preparedness is the key focus of Pike County's “Be Ready Day," Thursday, Sept. 12 at Troy University's Trojan Arena.

The event, part of National Preparedness Month, begins at 9 a.m. with exhibits of response equipment, interactive demonstrations and a focus on increasing the public's awareness about the importance of preparing for any type of emergency or disaster, said Herb Reeves, Dean of Student Services and the University's Director of Public Safety.

“Professional and volunteer responders will be on hand to interact with visitors to stress the importance of being prepared," he said.

At 11 a.m., a ceremony honoring area first responders and the memory of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 will be conducted inside Trojan Arena.

The event is being hosted jointly by the University and the Pike County Emergency Management Agency.
