PHENIX CITY – Construction is under way in earnest this week on the new 44,000 square foot Phenix City riverfront campus of Troy University.

Bear Brothers Construction, based in Montgomery, occupied the site on Oct. 14 to begin the 16-month project with a planned completion date of February 2015.

The Phenix City Campus of Troy University will plan to occupy the space in spring 2015 with the first classes being offered in summer 2015.

“The building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, overlooking the new urban whitewater course, will provide the type of economic engine that will lead to additional revitalization of the Phenix City riverfront," said Dr. David White, Vice Chancellor of TROY's Phenix City Campus.

Architects for the project are McKee & Associates of Montgomery. The project is the third building designed by the firm on the University's Phenix Campus.

The new four-story building, which represents phase one of a two-phase riverfront building project, will house programs of the Sorrell College of Business and the College of Health and Human Services. In addition, the building will house the Center for Water Resource Economics and the Center for Risk Management and Insurance, representing the first of several centers of excellence that are planned, according to Dr. White.
