TROY - Becky Lareau, telecommunications account specialist/supervisor at Troy University, has won the University’s Vergil Parks McKinley Award.
Lareau, who has been employed by the University since 1995, received the award on Wednesday during the annual Faculty/Staff Holiday Luncheon on the Troy Campus. Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor presented the award to Lareau, who was nominated by Drexel Hughes, telecommunications supervisor.
The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented quarterly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the University’s athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $1,000 stipend.
“Becky is a very dedicated and dependable employee,” Hughes said. “She is very knowledgeable of her job and is willing to go the extra mile to assist in any way possible. Becky wears many hats within the Telecommunications Department, from switchboard operator to programming the switch to office manager. She is a fine representative of all the qualities that are defined by the McKinley Award.”
Lareau said she was surprised and extremely grateful to receive the award.
“It came as a complete surprise, and I am very honored and thrilled to receive the McKinley Award,” Lareau said. “I strive to do my best every day and it was very nice to be recognized in this way. I am grateful for the award, and I truly love being a part of the Troy University family.”
