TROY — Troy University's Continuing Education Center has launched a new Professional Development Institute which will offer a variety of courses designed to help individuals advance in their careers through skill training, licensing and state or industry certifications.

The PDI houses online and in-class programs that will help individuals develop new skills or advance in various professions including life and health insurance, property and casualty insurance, cyber security, social media security, personal training and pharmacy technician.

"The PDI's programs teach participants to recognize issues, take effective action and create results," said Kathy Farley, coordinator for Business and Industry Training at TROY. "Our goal is to deliver value for your education and training dollars while using flexible delivery methods to meet your busy schedule."

The PDI can help individuals become insurance professionals in the state of Alabama through courses that prepare participants to sit for the state exam. IT professionals from job areas such as law enforcement, hospitals, education, or banking will benefit from cyber security and social media security industry certifications that will help individuals anticipate cyber-attacks and guard sensitive information.

"If you are interested in gaining specific skills, changing careers or beginning a new one, our career training programs are for you," Farley said. "Many of these courses can be completed in less than six months, and you will get all the materials and instructor assistance you need to have a truly comprehensive learning experience."

In addition to scheduled offerings, the PDI can develop custom training for employers in an array of industries.

Courses completed through the Professional Development Institute and the Continuing Education Center are non-academic certificate opportunities that provide participants with a permanent record of educational accomplishments and training. Many courses provide preparation for state or industry certifications.

Formal application to the University is not required.
