MULTIPLE COVERAGE OPPORTUNITIES AT TROY FOR WEEK OF NOV. 2
Tuesday, Nov. 3:
Tutwiler Prison Reading Initiative: A media availability will be held inside the prison's E-Learning Center to highlight a joint reading initiative between Troy University, Ingram State Technical College, the Alabama Department of Corrections and the Alabama Humanities Foundation. This begins at 12 p.m. Media must be on site at 11:45 a.m. A prior media advisory exists on this event with more details.
Holocaust Teachers Workshop w/ Ann Rosenheck: The Birmingham Holocaust Education Center Teacher Workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor. Teachers from throughout Alabama will be participating in this professional development program that provides resources and pedagogical approaches to teaching the complexities of the Holocaust. At 1:30 p.m., the workshop will hear from Ann Rosenheck, an Auschwitz concentration camp survivor.
Wednesday, Nov. 4, Enterprise High School, 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.: Ann Rosenheck will provide a lecture at Enterprise High School on the Holocaust. This event is open for coverage.
Thursday, Nov. 5, Troy Campus, 9 a.m.: Ann Rosenheck will provide a lecture, open to the public, in Claudia Crosby Theater. A brief media availability with her will be prior to her lecture at 8:35 a.m. in Claudia Crosby Theater.
Friday, Nov. 6, Troy Campus/Davis Field House Auditorium, 10 a.m.: SR-71 Blackbird pilot and TROY alumnus retired Air Force Lt. Col. Ed Yeilding, who set the Coast-to-Coast speed record of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 53.69 seconds, will provide a lecture to students and the general public in the Davis Field House Auditorium. The legendary Blackbird, often called America's greatest Cold War asset, achieved a speed of 2,124.51 miles per hour on the flight from the West Coast. Yielding's aircraft is now part of the Smithsonian exhibit. Yielding lives in his hometown of Florence, Ala.
Saturday, Nov. 7, Troy Campus, 2:30 p.m. (kickoff): Troy University's Military Appreciation Day when the Trojans take on the Warhawks of Louisiana Monroe. Special honorees will be retired Air Force Lt. Col. Ed Yielding, an SR-71 pilot, and Major Gen. Perry Smith, Adjutant General, Alabama National Guard. In addition, active-duty military receive free tickets and their guests receive reduced tickets to the game. The branches of the military will be recognized on field during a special halftime show by the Sound of the South Marching Band.
