TROY’s Concert Choral performance focuses on sacred music Nov. 8

TROY - The Troy University Concert Chorale will perform its fall concert, "Rise and Sing," at Bush Memorial Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m.

The chamber choir will perform a variety of sacred music representing different time periods and musical styles.

"I love juxtaposing old and new in this concert. For example, the Chorale will perform a Renaissance setting of 'Alma Redemptoris Mater,' utilizing the Renaissance version of Palestrina and another challenging composition by Hungarian composer, Gyorgy Orban," said Dr. Diane Orlofsky, conductor and Director of Choirs.

"I choose the texts in the program very carefully, and as I was programming this concert, I noticed that each selection focuses on a different aspect or theme found in much of sacred music. Those in attendance will hear themes of adoration, service, repentance, humility, jubilation, celebration, sacrifice, and service," Orlofsky said.

The work of two undergraduate conductors, Kayla Boston and Hannah Moore, will be featured in this performance.

The concert will close with a performance of "Prayer" by Rene Clausen in memory of Dr. Ellis M. Bush, Sr., who passed away in September.

"The text of this piece is a prayer adapted from Mother Teresa. It speaks of service and the text epitomizes the life and legacy of Dr. Bush. We are honored to remember him in this way," Orlofsky said.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
