TROY student garners national journalism award

TROY - A Troy University journalism student has been recognized nationally for his reporting efforts by the Society of Professional Journalists in their Mark of Excellence awards program.

David Caddell, a recent broadcast journalism graduate from Greenville, was selected a finalist in the Radio News Reporting category for "Students march as part of Selma commemoration" report on Troy Public Radio. The MOE Awards honor the best of collegiate journalism within a calendar year.

Troy University students also did well in the regional SPJ awards recognition. TROY's region encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Winning at the regional level are:

  • Seth Nicholson, a finalist in the editorial cartooning category;
  • Jayde Jacobs, a winner in the feature writing category;
  • Ngoc Vo, a finalist in the general column writing category;
  • Jacob Holmes, a finalist in the general news reporting category;
  • Thomas Gleaton and Michal Shipma, co-finalists in the in-depth reporting category;
  • Joey Hudson, a winner in the radio broadcast category; and
  • David Caddell, winner of the radio news reporting.
